A gathering of thoughts on Amy, NFL, and debt

I love this summer and all my vacation time but its killing my writing. I spend more time enjoying a nice iced caramel latte from Dunkin Donuts than looking at the what’s happening in the world. Too bad it all has come to an end because all my summer days off are gone. Oh well, back to the grind.

Let’s do a quick hit on what’s been happening last week. Better to give a little recap of what is going on and what the thoughts are. First to the line is the NFL labor talks or offers or whatever they are calling it this hour. For all accounts, the money has been settled which a good thing is. What the players are concerned about is the care for them after the game is over. I can appreciate that to some extent but let’s be real. Most if not all NFL players are paid more than most workers in the country will make in a lifetime. The thought that these multi-millionaires should have a huge safety net for when they leave the game is kind of insulting. Maybe, they players should look into setting up something for themselves in case the system the NFL puts in doesn’t completely support their needs. We as everyday workers do the same thing, its called 401K.

Amy Winehouse was found dead in her flat yesterday and the police are investigating the cause. I am a fan of Amy’s and found her to be a very talented singer. Unfortunately, her struggles with drugs and alcohol made her more infamous. Her rise and fall has been paralleled to the likes ofim Morrison, Janice Joplin, and Jimi Hendrix. I agree with the talent comparison but not sure if she will be remembered as well as those three. We may have missed out on one of the truly talented singer who never had the chance to showcase her abilities do to her personal demons.

Last but not least in the debt crisis. In case you haven’t heard, the U.S. has a few bills coming on the first of the month and the bank accounts a little short. Anyone find that to be a little weird? Are we not the land of opportunity and wealth? So now Washington is running around with its hair on fire trying to figure out a way to make good on its debt payment. Threats of benefit checks not going out to catastrophic ripples through the global financial system has all been thrown to the press for a feeding frenzy. Both sides say they want to come to an agreement to raise the debt ceiling but neither can agree on how to do it. The political gridlock that has had this tied up for months now is becoming more personal than for the greater good of this country. All I can say is something is going to have to give. Republican, Democrat, Tea Party or Independents need to realize this is no longer about their seat in congress or the senate. It’s about the stability of this country and if they cannot realize that, we truly will have many dark days ahead. If you think what we are in now is bad, wait until the U.S can’t borrow anymore and everyday items like milk or bread shoot up to ridiculous prices like $10 a gallon of milk. There was an interesting article posted over on CNN about something similar to this. The article was about Shays’ Rebellion. I suggest if you have time take a look at it or do a search and find out the history on it. Pretty interesting reading.

So those where the main things I was following or wanted to comment on from last week. I hope everyone is braced for the upcoming week and look forward to entertaining you sans vacation time. Enjoy the Views!!
